Frequently Asked Questions

Why was Live from Here canceled?
"Live from Here," hosted by Chris Thile, was canceled in June 2020 by American Public Media (APM). The primary reason for the cancellation was the severe financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the suspension of live events and significant revenue losses for APM. The show, which was a reimagining of the beloved "A Prairie Home Companion," relied heavily on live audiences and touring, both of which became impossible during the pandemic. Additionally, APM cited the overall uncertainty in the live performance sector and the challenges of producing the show under pandemic restrictions. Despite its critical acclaim and a devoted fan base, "Live from Here" could not overcome the financial and logistical hurdles presented by the global health crisis. The decision to end the show left many fans disappointed, but Chris Thile expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have hosted and for the support of listeners and collaborators throughout its run.
What is the new show with Chris Thile?
After the cancellation of "Live from Here," Chris Thile has continued to create new music and engage with audiences through various projects. His latest show is "The Song of the Week Show," which launched as a hybrid live and streaming event. This show builds on the popular "Song of the Week" segment from "Live from Here," featuring original songs written and performed by Thile, alongside collaborations with guest artists. "The Song of the Week Show" brings together Thile's signature wit, musicianship, and genre-spanning creativity, offering fans a chance to experience his artistry in an intimate and innovative format. In addition, Thile remains active as a solo artist and as a member of renowned groups such as Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek, continuing to tour, record, and connect with classical and folk music audiences worldwide.
Who is the new host of the Prairie Home Companion?
There is currently no new host of "A Prairie Home Companion." The original program, created and hosted by Garrison Keillor, was rebranded as "Live from Here" in 2016 when Chris Thile took over hosting duties. Following the cancellation of "Live from Here" in 2020, the show has not been revived under its original name or with a new host. "A Prairie Home Companion" as a radio program is no longer being produced, and there have been no official announcements from American Public Media (APM) regarding the appointment of a new host or a potential revival. Fans of the show can still enjoy archived episodes, but as of now, there is no active successor or replacement host for "A Prairie Home Companion."
