Over the past 40 years, the Turtle Island Quartet has been an inimitable force in the creation of bold, new trends in chamber music for strings. The two time Grammy winners have gained notice for fusing the classical quartet aesthetic with contemporary American musical styles, devising a performance practice that honors both. Their talent has been displayed in their work with major motion pictures, TV and radio credits such as the Today Show, All Things Considered, Prairie Home Companion and Morning Edition, and collaborations with famed artists such as trumpeter Terence Blanchard, vibraphonist Stefon Harris, guitar legends such as Leo Kottke and the Assad brothers and The Manhattan Transfer. It is why legendary cellist Yo Yo Ma has proclaimed the Turtle Island Quartet to be a unified voice that truly breaks new ground authentic and passionate a reflection of some of the most creative music-making today.

About Turtle Island Quartet

The Turtle Island String Quartet is a San Francisco Bay Area based jazz string quartet formed in 1985 and still actively touring worldwide and recording as of 2007. They were the first string quartet to achieve artistic and commercial success integrating jazz improvisation, jazz rhythms and comping using extended techniques.
