Frequently Asked Questions

Is Calvary Church LGBTQ friendly?
Is Calvary Church LGBTQ friendly? Calvary Church of Santa Ana, like many evangelical Christian churches, holds traditional views on marriage and sexuality based on biblical teachings. While the church welcomes all individuals to attend services and participate in the community, its official stance does not affirm same-sex marriage or LGBTQ relationships. Calvary Church emphasizes love and respect for every person, encouraging outreach and support without compromising its doctrinal beliefs. Attendees from the LGBTQ community may find a welcoming atmosphere, but those seeking full affirmation of LGBTQ identities and relationships may not find the church’s theological positions fully aligned with their expectations. For the most up-to-date information, it’s best to consult Calvary Church’s official website or contact church leadership directly.
What is the lawsuit against Calvary Chapel?
What is the lawsuit against Calvary Chapel? The "Calvary Chapel lawsuit" generally refers to legal actions involving Calvary Chapel churches, which are part of a broader network of independent evangelical congregations. Notably, several Calvary Chapel churches faced lawsuits during the COVID-19 pandemic, challenging government restrictions on in-person worship services. For instance, Calvary Chapel San Jose and Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley (Nevada) filed lawsuits claiming that state-imposed restrictions on gatherings infringed upon religious freedoms. These lawsuits were widely publicized and resulted in various court rulings, some in favor of the churches’ right to meet for worship. However, there are no prominent lawsuits directly associated with Calvary Church of Santa Ana. For specific legal matters, always refer to official court documents or news sources.
Is Skip Heitzig still a pastor?
Is Skip Heitzig still a pastor? Yes, Skip Heitzig is still an active pastor. He currently serves as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico—often referred to as Calvary Church Albuquerque or Calvary Chapel Albuquerque. Since founding the church in 1982, Heitzig has become a prominent figure in the Calvary Chapel movement, known for his biblical teaching and leadership. He continues to preach regularly, author books, and host radio and online ministries. Skip Heitzig is not affiliated with Calvary Church of Santa Ana, but remains a respected leader within the broader Calvary Chapel network. For the latest updates on his ministry, visit Calvary Church Albuquerque’s official website.
Does Calvary Chapel allow female pastors?
Does Calvary Chapel allow female pastors? Calvary Chapel, as a movement, holds a complementarian view regarding church leadership roles. This means that while women are encouraged to serve in various ministries and leadership capacities, the role of senior or teaching pastor is reserved for men, in accordance with their interpretation of biblical passages such as 1 Timothy 2:12. Women may serve as ministry leaders, teachers for other women or children, and in administrative roles, but are not ordained as pastors who preach during main congregational services. This policy is generally consistent across most Calvary Chapel-affiliated churches, including Calvary Church of Santa Ana. For specific details, consult the local church’s official doctrinal statements or leadership.
Do they speak in tongues at Calvary Chapel?
Do they speak in tongues at Calvary Chapel? Calvary Chapel churches, including Calvary Church of Santa Ana, believe in the continuation of spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues, as described in the New Testament. However, their approach is cautious and orderly. Speaking in tongues is not a central feature of public worship services and is typically practiced privately or in small group settings, following biblical guidelines outlined in 1 Corinthians 14. The leadership encourages the use of spiritual gifts but emphasizes that all manifestations should be done with order and clarity, avoiding confusion during corporate gatherings. For a detailed explanation of their position on spiritual gifts, refer to Calvary Church’s official teachings or statement of faith.
