Why is it called The Baths in Virgin Gorda?
The Baths in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, derive their name from the stunning natural rock formations that create unique seaside pools and grottoes. This iconic attraction is characterized by massive granite boulders, some over 40 feet in diameter, scattered along the beach and partially submerged in crystal-clear waters. These geological wonders were formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago, and over time, weathering and erosion have shaped the boulders into the picturesque formations seen today. The name "The Baths" comes from the way these rocks enclose small pools of seawater, creating natural "baths" where visitors can swim, snorkel, and explore. The area is not only a breathtaking natural site but also a major draw for tourists seeking adventure and relaxation in the Caribbean. The Baths are celebrated for their unique beauty, offering a one-of-a-kind experience for nature lovers and beachgoers alike.
